Academic: Bachelor's degree with GPA 3.0/4.0; Or equivalent in civil engineering or a closely related field. Older department materials cite GPA generally above about 3.2 with exceptions; Rackham minimum 3.0/4.0.
Prerequisites: Relevant academic background; Preparation in civil engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
IELTS: 6.5 overall; Academic IELTS (including At Home). Required if prior study does not meet an English-proficiency exemption.
TOEFL: New scale: 4.5 overall | Old scale: 84 overall; Rackham/CoE minimum for admission consideration. New scale applies to tests from 21 Jan 2026; old scale applies before that date.
GRE: Optional; Highly encouraged but not required for CEE MSE applications for the 2026/2027 academic year.
