Academic: Bachelor's degree with GPA 3.0/4.0; Graduate College enforces 3.0 minimum for the last two years of undergraduate study. Catalog: undergraduate or graduate degree in a natural science, computer science, or engineering. Successful applicants typically have GPAs above 3.5/4.0 (not a published hard cutoff).
Prerequisites: Coursework prerequisites; Expected undergraduate preparation: two years general chemistry; calculus-based physics; differential equations; multivariate calculus; linear algebra; statistics; introductory computing. Additional biology/engineering courses are highly recommended. Strong quantitative skills and serious interest in the life sciences; experimental research or volunteer experience in bioengineering sought.
IELTS: 7.5 overall; Graduate College full-status admission minimum. Limited status is 6.5 overall and typically requires ESL placement. Scores must be dated within two years of the proposed term.
TOEFL: New scale: 5.0 overall | Old scale: 103 overall; Graduate College full-status admission minimum. New scale applies to tests dated after 20 Jan 2026; old scale applies before 21 Jan 2026.; Graduate College full-status admission minimum. Limited status is 79 overall (old scale) / 4.0 (new scale) and typically requires ESL placement. Scores must be dated within two years of the proposed term.
