Academic: Bachelor's degree with GPA 3.0/4.0; GEPA minimum 3.0/4.0. Average GPA of admitted students is 3.5 (not a published hard cutoff).
Prerequisites: Relevant academic background; At least a B.S. and/or M.S. in some branch of engineering sciences, the physical sciences, or mathematics.
IELTS: 7.0 overall; University-wide GEPA Band Score 7 minimum.
TOEFL: New scale: 4.5 overall | Old scale: 85 overall; University-wide GEPA minimum for the new iBT scale when published by Graduate Admissions; confirm current new-scale mapping on the UCSD ELP page.; University-wide GEPA minimum (previous iBT scale). Some programs may set a higher threshold.
GRE: Optional; GRE not required for MS or PhD. Scores may be submitted and are visible to evaluators; omitting scores is not viewed negatively. Admitted applicants who submit GRE often have Quantitative around the 85–90th percentile (not a hard cutoff).
