Academic: Bachelor's degree with GPA 3.0/4.0; Department minimum 3.0/4.0; typical GPA for admission is 3.5 or higher. Students can apply directly to the Ph.D. without an M.S.
Prerequisites: Relevant academic background; Undergraduate engineering degree is not required; a solid math and physics foundation is expected. UC San Diego will not admit a student who already holds an M.S. or Ph.D. in the same or a related field (e.g., engineering, physics, math).
IELTS: 7.0 overall; MAE / GEPA Band 7.
TOEFL: New scale: 4.5 overall | Old scale: 85 overall; MAE / GEPA new iBT minimum.; MAE / GEPA previous iBT minimum.
