Academic: Bachelor's degree with GPA 3.0/4.0; Department minimum 3.0/4.0; typical GPA for admission is 3.5 or higher.
Prerequisites: Relevant academic background; Preparation for MAE graduate study. UC San Diego will not admit a student into the MS or Ph.D. program if the student already possesses an MS or Ph.D. in the same or a related field (for example engineering, physics, or math).
IELTS: 7.0 overall; MAE / GEPA Band 7.
TOEFL: New scale: 4.5 overall | Old scale: 85 overall; MAE / GEPA new iBT minimum.; MAE / GEPA previous iBT minimum.
GRE: Optional; Not required. Scores may be submitted and are visible to faculty evaluators; omitting scores is not viewed negatively. No minimum published; admitted students who submit GRE often report Quantitative around the 85–90th percentile.
