Academic: Bachelor's degree with GPA 3.0/4.0; Ph.D. applicants required to hold a B.S. with minimum 3.0 GPA. Normally expected to have completed an M.S. with at least 3.25 GPA; exceptional students may be admitted to the Ph.D. directly.
Prerequisites: Relevant academic background; B.S. in civil engineering or a related field with requisite coursework for the intended sub-discipline. Master’s degree strongly encouraged.
IELTS: 7.0 overall
TOEFL: New scale: 4.5 overall | 87 overall; University minimum for exams taken on or after 21 Jan 2026.; University minimum for exams taken before 21 Jan 2026. UCLA does not accept MyBest scores.
GRE: Optional; 2026–2027 Graduate Division listing: optional. Department notes GRE not required but scores may be submitted; applications with GRE may receive greater weight for Ph.D. review.
