Academic: Accredited baccalaureate degree or equivalent; Must meet GSAS admission regulations. Strong grades in relevant coursework expected.
Prerequisites: CS and discrete-math background; Minimum background includes data structures (pointers, lists, trees, graphs, stacks, queues, recursion), discrete mathematics (induction, order of growth, probability basics, set notation), and related undergraduate CS preparation. Confirm current prerequisite wording on the Courant admissions FAQ.
IELTS: 7.0 overall; Accepted when English proficiency is required; Courant/GSAS minimum band score 7.0. Send electronically to New York University, Graduate School of Arts and Science (no institutional code).
TOEFL: New scale: 5 overall (recommended) | Old scale: 100 overall (recommended); GSAS recommends a minimum of 5 on the new 1–6 TOEFL iBT scoring (tests from January 2026 onward) alongside the 100/120 recommendation.; Required unless native English speaker, U.S. citizen/permanent resident, or degree from an English-instruction institution.
