Academic: Bachelor's degree; Or equivalent by matriculation. No published hard GPA cutoff.
Prerequisites: Relevant academic background; Typical applicants hold a BS in EE, computer engineering, computer science, or a related discipline. Highly qualified candidates from other backgrounds may be considered; competitive preparation often includes programming in more than one language, data structures, and discrete math.
IELTS: 7.0 overall; TGS/program minimum when IELTS is used.
TOEFL: New scale: 4.5 overall | Old scale: 90 overall; TGS minimum for exams taken after 21 Jan 2026. Department pages may still list a 90 iBT floor.; Program/TGS internet-based minimum (100+ recommended on FAQ). Required if prior degree was not taught in English. Old scale before 21 Jan 2026 where applicable.
GRE: Required (no minimum published); GREs are required for the 2026–2027 CS doctoral program application.
