Academic: Bachelor's degree with GPA 3.0/4.0; Graduate School minimum; competitive admission. CS department evaluates preparation via prerequisites.
Prerequisites: Coursework prerequisites; Undergraduate CS and math preparation expected (algorithms, data structures, programming, discrete math, calculus, etc.); see department prerequisites / non-CS background page.
IELTS: 6.5 overall (6.5 each component); Graduate School Academic IELTS minimum; General IELTS not accepted.
TOEFL: New scale: 4.0 overall (4.0 each component) | Old scale: 80 overall (18 each component); Graduate School minimum for tests taken on or after 21 January 2026. Speaking 5 required for TA appointment.; Graduate School minimum for tests taken before 21 January 2026. Some programs set higher minima.
GRE: Required for international master's applicants; GRE general exam required of all international masters applicants (including those in the U.S.). Not required of domestic masters or PhD applicants.
