Academic: Bachelor's degree with demonstrated ability to maintain GPA 3.45/4.0 or greater; No hard minimum GPA to apply; admissions are holistic. Previous master's not required. Four-year or equivalent undergraduate degree.
Prerequisites: Relevant academic background; Prior undergraduate or graduate degree with substantial CS&E background preferred; well-qualified applicants without a CS major may be considered. Demonstrated research potential required.
IELTS: 6.5 overall (6.5 writing, 6.5 reading); speaking 7.0 for TA eligibility; University operational minimum plus department speaking threshold for teaching assistantships. Duolingo not accepted for PhD applications.
TOEFL: New scale: 4.5 overall (4.5 writing/reading); speaking 4.5 for TA eligibility | Old scale: 79 overall (W21, R19); speaking 23 for TA eligibility; For tests on or after 21 January 2026.; For tests before 21 January 2026. Non-native English speakers should provide a non-expired score even after prior English-medium study if seeking TA funding.
