Academic: Bachelor's degree with GPA 3.0/4.0; Minimum GPA 3.0 to pursue an M.S. (3.2 stated for Ph.D.). Average admitted GPA over ten years was 3.6/4.0 (not a cutoff).
Prerequisites: Relevant academic background; B.S. and/or M.S. in MSE, polymer/ceramic/metallurgical/chemical/mechanical/textile engineering, chemistry, BME, biology, physics, or a related science/engineering field. Additional courses may be required after admission.
IELTS: 7.0 overall (6.5 L/R/S, 5.5 W); Institute IELTS Academic minimum. Some programs set higher overall scores.
TOEFL: New scale: 4.5 overall (R/L/W 4, S 3.5) | 90 overall (19 each component); Institute minimum for TOEFL iBT after January 2026. MyBest scores are not accepted.; Institute minimum for tests taken before January 2026. MyBest scores are not accepted.
GRE: Optional; MSE no longer requires GRE general test scores.
