Academic: Bachelor's degree; Undergraduate GPA on a 4.0 scale required in the application. Many successful applicants have prior graduate training in biostatistics, statistics, or a related field; bachelor's-only applicants may be competitive with exceptional preparation and research potential. No hard GPA cutoff published.
Prerequisites: Coursework prerequisites; Expected before enrollment: multivariate calculus; at least one semester of linear algebra; probability and statistical inference at advanced undergraduate statistics level; knowledge of a programming language such as R, Python, or SAS. Real analysis strongly recommended. Outstanding applicants missing one prerequisite may be admitted with expectation to complete coursework early.
IELTS: 7.0 overall; Graduate School generally seeks no less than 7.0 Academic when IELTS is used.
TOEFL: New scale: 5.0 overall | Old scale: 90 overall; Graduate School guidance for TOEFL iBT tests on/after 21 Jan 2026.; Graduate School generally seeks no less than 90 iBT for applicants whose first language is not English (tests before 21 Jan 2026); may be waived for some applicants.
