Academic: Bachelor's degree; Baccalaureate degree from a recognized college or university (or equivalent education). No minimum GPA published as a hard cutoff on the department apply page.
Prerequisites: Quantitative background; Strongly recommended: three semesters of calculus; linear algebra; mathematical statistics and probability; differential equations. Real analysis is helpful. Familiarity with computer programming is valuable but not essential. Advanced undergraduate or graduate economic theory coursework expected for typical admits.
IELTS: 7.0 overall; Accepted English proficiency alternative under department policy.
TOEFL: 100 overall (25 recommended each section); Most recent iBT only (test center or home edition); MyBest Scores not accepted. Department publishes overall minimum 100; new 1–6 TOEFL scale not listed on the Economics PhD apply page.
GRE: Required (no minimum published); Official GRE General Test required and cannot be waived. Take at least one month before the deadline. GRE Subject Tests not required. GMAT not accepted. Scores older than two years are not considered per department policy.
